Chinese actor and singer Yu Menglong has died at the age of 37. The star appeared in the popular series Eternal Love, which is on Netflix. His management studio confirmed the actor’s death on Thursday (Sep 11) through a heartbreaking statement on Weibo. It has been alleged in a now-deleted post on Weibo that he died in Beijing "after falling from height" at a friend’s home. His management studio said: "With unbearable sorrow, we announce that our beloved Menglong fell to his death on Sept 11. Police have ruled out any criminality. We hope he rests in peace and his loved ones remain strong."
He rose to fame on the Chinese singing competition Super Boy, where he finished in 10th place in 2013. Later in 2015, Yu played the 9th prince in the historical web drama, Go Princess Go.
He shot to fame when appearing in Bai Zhen in 2017’s Eternal Love, which can now be streamed on Netflix. The successful series garnered over 50 billion views on Chinese streaming websites and has attracted fans around the globe.
Other film and TV credits include Han Cloud, Legend of the White Snake and Who’s Not Rebellious Youth.
One devastated fan left a tribute on X saying: "Yu Menglong...too young to leave..but this life not belong us..may your soul rest in peace ..flying high young man be one star among galaxy...."
A second also chimed in: "Tried to stay grounded these few days but somehow my teen years Chi fav laidback actor Yu Menglong death got me. RIP to such pure soul."
A third person also commented on X: "Just found out Yu Menglong passed away?! Omg that’s so sudden…I still remember him from Go Princess Go, one of the cheapest historical drama ever and he still managed to become the funniest second lead ever with beauty that even shein clothes can’t hide. Rest in peace."
Another fan also remarked: "RIP Yu Menglong, I have watched your shows and know that you are a great actor. Your costars also confirm you are a gentle soul."
A fifth person also said: "A huge part of me didn't want to believe and wished hard that it would just be a rumor. May you rest in peace, Yu Menglong."
