Ellie Goulding has claimed anti-migrant protesters make her “embarrassed to be British” as she hit out at those gathering outside migrant hotels to protest illegal immigration. The Love Me Like You Do songstress, 38, shared a photo of one of the protests to her Instagram grid, admitting she is “embarrassed to be a Brit right now”.
She added: “They say it’s for the ‘women and children’. I’m a pretty tough girl but when I think about the times I’ve been intimidated in London or anywhere else in [the] UK, whether on the tube/train or walking with friends late at night, it involves those kinds of British men either after a night at the pub, post boxing or football match.
“Stop using immigration as an excuse to be appalling and if you really want to stand up for this beautiful country, go and get a National Trust membership for real.”
Ellie is not the only female musician to be coming forward, with LDN hitmaker Lily Allen slamming anyone waving a St George’s flag and insisting St George himself would be housed in a migrant hotel.
She said on the Miss Me? podcast: “Do you know, yesterday I was driving on the motorway and the sheer volume of St George’s Crosses and Union Jacks being hung from bridges or painted badly on roundabouts really made me think about what is going on here.
“I mean, I think the only acceptable time for St. George's Cross is if England have made it into the finals of the Euros or the World Cup.
"That is, for me, the only time that we need to see those flags."
When told about St George’s connections to other countries, she said: “Oh, the irony. Palestinian? What? Hang on, you couldn’t write this sh**.
“[St George] would be being put up at a hotel and… ‘What's your name? You say St. George? Come, come. We've got a Premier Inn with your name all over it'."
