Nigel Farage is set to say that Britain has become an “illiberal and authoritarian censorship regime” when he testifies before Congress in the US on Wednesday. The Reform UK leader is in Washington where he will raise concerns about British restrictions on freedom of speech.
He is appearing before the House Judiciary Committee at 3pm, which is looking at the effect that British and European online safety laws are having on US tech giants. Mr Farage is expected to raise the case of Graham Linehan, the Father Ted creator, who was arrested by five armed officers over posts he made on X about transgender people.
He is also set to mention the case of Lucy Connolly, who was jailed over a social media post in the wake of the Southport attacks, and subsequently accused Sir Keir of holding her as a “political prisoner”.
