Travelling is stressful, but it can become even more stressful if you have a long flight ahead of you or if you're not used to travelling. One of the most important things to do before you head off to the airport is to make sure you've packed all of your essential items.
Packing for a holiday can often feel overwhelming, trying to fit everything in while avoiding wrinkles, worrying about overpacking, or fearing you haven’t packed enough. While most people opt to check in their luggage, you'll still be able to bring a small bag with you into the cabin as your carry-on.
Taking to social media, one flight attendant named Chloe has now shared eight items she believes to be essential to bring on a plane, especially if it's a long-haul flight, as it will make your experience more relaxing an enjoyable.
"Must haves on planes, from a flight attendant," she wrote on the first slide of her TikTok post before jumping in to her tips of things to pack.
Going to the bathroom on a plane can be an awkward experience for some, especially if you need to empty your bowels. To make the experience more pleasent for both you and other passengers on the plane, Chloe recommended bringing a 'poo spray' with you.
While it may sound odd, the spray is sprayed either around the bathroom or directly into the toilet and will thereby hide the bad bathroom smells.
"It's called Poopurri and yes it works. Be a good human and spray before you walk away," Chole wrote.
Next up, she recommended bringing your own snacks and drinks onto a plane. Her main reason for this is because of how unexpected plane turbulence or conditions could delay the planned food service.
"If turbulence hits, you might not get served for hours," she explained. "Bring your own snacks and drinks, plane food is mid anyway."
"Nothing hits like brushing your teeth after a long flight nap," she said. "These little guys are pre-pasted! No sink, no mess, just fresh."
The product in question that she recommended was a multipacket of disposable mini toothbrushes that already have toothpaste added onto them, making it one less product you have to pack.
If you don't want to buy another disposable product, a good alternative would be to just pack your own toothbrush and toothpaste in your carry-on that you can use to freshen up before landing.
Planes can be noisy, which can make the flight feel even longer than it already is. To help with this, Chloe recommends packing some noise cancelling headphones to use on the plane.
"Trust me - they're a lifesaver, she said. "Block out crying babies, engine noise, and snoring seatmates."
"Just make sure they come with a wire for in-flight screens," she added.
"Best travel hack I've found," she said about her fifth tip, which was steam eye masks.
These masks helps to improve your blood circulation and around your eyes. The heat can also help you relex and fall asleep more easily.
"The heat soothes my dry, tired eyes and eases the pressure. It's the only reason I can sleep on flights now," Chloe said.
If you have a pair of headphones or earpods that require bluetooth to work, having a bluetooth transmitter, such as an AirFly, will allow you to use your own headphones for the in-flight entertainment.
"A game changer for anyone who flies and wants to use their own wireless earbuds instead of those uncomfortable airline headphones," Chloe said.
If you know that you'll be wanting to sleep or relax on your flight, getting yourself a neck pillow can be a great investment in order to help prevent a stiff or painful neck. However, Chloe urged her viewers to make sure they get a good quality one.
She said: "Not all neckpillows are created equal. Find one that actually supports your head or risk waking up with neck pain and regret."
Lastly, as most people will already be aware of, the most important thing you need to bring with you on your flight is your valid passport. However, Chloe also made sure to add that you should bring your own pen.
"Double-check that your passport isn't expired. And bring your own pen!" she said. "You'll need it for customs forms, and flight attendants never seem to have extras."
Chloe then went on to share a few more things that could make your life easier on the plane, including compression socks, gum or mints, pill case with medications, sanitising wipes, hand sanitiser, reusable water bottle, and face masks.
