Jeremy Clarkson has once again made headlines with his scathing critique of the Labour government, declaring his dislike for Sir Keir Starmer and harking back to the days of Margaret Thatcher. The former Top Gear host, known for his honest opinions, did not hold back as he spoke openly about his loathing of Britain's current prime minister and his disregard for deputy PM, Angela Rayner's ploy to look "relatable".
When asked by Times Radio host Peter Caldwell, enquiring if the PM was still barred from his pub, The Farmer's Dog, Clarkson quipped: "Oh God, yes. I hate very few people in life, but I do hate that man. He's awful. He's definitely banned. He's just so flippant about farmers. Whenever you ask him, it's just like 'Well, who cares about them?' And that's one of the things I really dislike."
Clarkson went on to aim at Rayner, who recently made waves in the media after being spotted enjoying a vape while on a canoe ride during some downtime away from Westminster. The TV personality dismissed the stunt as a thinly-veiled attempt to appear “real” to voters, saying he was “unimpressed” with her behaviour.
“What we need is leaders with some personal experience of running a company. This means we can relate to them. But I don’t want to relate to the prime minister,” Clarkson wrote. “He or she shouldn’t be like you or me. They should be a bit weird. A bit of a swot.”
The outspoken commentator praised former Conservative prime minister Margaret Thatcher as the “greatest prime minister” of his lifetime, noting that her leadership was effective precisely because ordinary people couldn’t relate to her. “No one related to her,” he added, lauding Thatcher’s ability to command respect and drive change.
Clarkson also highlighted what he sees as a key flaw in Labour’s approach: a lack of practical business experience. “It doesn’t matter if it’s a corner shop or even a paper round. Just something that tells us they have a basic understanding of the concept that you earn a certain amount of money, and then that’s how much you can spend,” he argued in his The Sun column.
He slammed the current Labour team for thinking they can “spend whatever they like on whatever hare-brained scheme they’ve come up with that week,” suggesting that many of them come from privileged backgrounds and fail to understand the realities of working life.
