Autumn staycation plans are already being made, with many Brits choosing cosy stays, comfort food and autumnal walks over sun-soaked holidays abroad. New research from UK holiday park provider Away Resorts revealed the ultimate staycation spots that truly offer something for everyone.

Rating each destination based on multiple categories such as pet-friendly accommodation, number of restaurants and the amount of attractions available, the index found that Coventry came out top for being an “all-rounder”. The city scored 72 percent with Dundee (69 percent), and Lytham St Annes (67 percent) following. Llangollen, nestled in North Wales’ Dee Valley, came in fifth at 59 percent, and Tripadvisor reviews make it clear why it scored so high.

According to user Tina L, Llangollen is “a little gem” with “plenty of places to eat for all budgets, there are also gift shops, antique shops, crafts and other individual shops” on the main street.

Reviewer JLB1 added: “Lovely visit, beautiful countryside. Watched locals canoeing and had a lovely walk, saw the steam train through the trees. Highly recommend.”

Nature lovers can stroll along the River Dee, take in panoramic views from Castell Dinas Brân, or hop aboard the Llangollen steam railway, which travels through lush valleys.

The surrounding waterways also offer the perfect setting for kayaking, paddleboarding, and riverside walks, making Llangollen not just scenic but also active in the summer and autumn.

The historic Horseshoe Falls, designed by Thomas Telford, marks the start of the scenic Llangollen Canal, which is most famously crossed by the nearby Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, a 19th-century marvel that is a major highlight for visitors.

Another of its famous historic landmarks is Plas Newydd, the former home of the Ladies of Llangollen—two Anglo-Irish women whose eccentric lifestyle and romantic partnership drew writers, artists, and royalty to the town.

Nowadays, the town honours its cultural heritage by hosting the annual Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod, a world-renowned celebration of music and dance that draws performers from across the world each summer.
