Ukraine has revealed a civilian ship was blown up by an unidentified explosive device in the Black Sea, off the coast of Odesa.
The information was confirmed by Dmytro Pletenchuk, the spokesman for the Navy of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, in a comment to Suspilne.
According to Mr Pletenchuk, the ship is now being inspected but is likely to continue its journey under its own power.
“We are doing everything necessary to ensure the appropriate level of safety of civil shipping as much as possible. However, despite this, sometimes such incidents can occur,” he said in a statement.
No further details have yet been released, and it remains unclear what caused the explosion.
