However John, who was awarded a Legacy Medal by the Slapstick Festival in Bristol for his contributions to comedy, jokes that his next project might be a step too far. He is preparing to jet off to the United States with his tour, Not Dead Yet.
Speaking to MailOnline, John said: “I'm 85 years old. I've got two replacement hips, a replacement knee, I'm deaf in one ear, I've got a pacemaker - and I've had three hair transplants.
“'I'm hoping not to die while I'm on tour. It's exhausting, it's ridiculous - and frankly, it might kill me.”
John’s tour, which marks 50 years since Monty Python and the Holy Grail, was captured in his upcoming documentary, John Cleese Packs It In. The film follows the comic as he prepares to perform 23 shows in five countries.
The Fawlty Towers star added: “If this is the last time. It’s not a bad way to go.”
In 2014 John admitted that he looked forward to being dead. He also said he would never make another film because of the amount of work it takes to get one to the screen.
Asked if he would write a third movie after A Fish Called Wanda and Fierce Creatures, he said: “No, because it is too much like hard work.
“It is two-and-three-quarter years and I am too old for that process. If I started on it now I would die. I have only got five or six years left and I will be gone – I won’t have to worry about ISIS or Ebola, I am looking forward to it.
"Most of the best people are dead – I will be in excellent company having a wonderful time.”
At the time he also admitted that he no longer watched comedy on television. John added: “The sad thing is, and this is quite sincere, when you have been doing comedy for as long as I do, you really do know most of the jokes.”
John also revealed the Pythons were “never huge friends”. The star has been involved in a long-running feud with fellow Python Eric Idle.
John, along with Graham Chapman, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones and Michael Palin, rose to fame in the late 1960s after they released Monty Python’s Flying Circus. The show led to a series of film spin-offs, books, and live shows.
