There's nothing like a day at the beach when the weather is nice, but concerns have been raised about the state of one beautiful seaside. Complaints have recently been made about the state of the beach as a "hidden danger" is said to lie within the sand.
The issue has recently been brought up on social media as several people have shared videos of rubbish found on the beach in recent months. One woman claimed the seaside looked "ruined" as she witnessed lots of glass hidden within the sand, and other videos have revealed just how much rubbish has been left behind by visitors in recent months.
In one TikTok clip, shared by Bournemouth Official, people were urged to take their rubbish home with them as footage showed the sand covered with glass bottles, disregarded food packets, cans and other sharp objects that could be dangerous. People are now being urged to treat the beach with respect due to the sheer volume of rubbish spotted.
Over the clip, the message read: "Please respect nature. Respect the beach and take all rubbish home with you or use the bins provided. Thanks."
The video has been viewed hundreds of times since it was shared, and people were quick to share their thoughts. Many people admitted they were "disgusted."
One person simply wrote: "So disrespectful." Another added: "People have no respect anymore for anything nice."
A third replied: "Went for a walk Saturday evening along the beach and it was disgusting." Meanwhile, a fourth also commented: "It's the same every year."
Someone else chimed in with: "It's too dangerous to walk on this sand barefoot. You never know if there's broken glass or a beer cap."
One more also added: "It's disgusting to see people throwing and leaving their mess behind. I was literally talking to my kids about how people are behaving worse than animals. Sad."
For years Bournemouth has wowed the crowds with its miles of golden sandy beaches, scenic stretches of coastline and vibrant town centre. Often hailed as the UK’s "best" beach Bournemouth boasts a seven-mile stretch of award-winning beaches and is renowned for its clean, golden sands and excellent facilities.
To maintain the beach’s size and resilience against erosion 350,000 cubic metres of sand were pumped into eight sections of the town's beaches in the last few years only. The £7.5m project saw huge machinery operating on the beaches, with members of the public urged to steer clear and to keep dogs on leads.
Enormous pipes stretched along to install sand on the beaches from mid-December 2020 to March 2021. The beach locations requiring a top-up included Solent Path to St Catherine’s Path, Gordon’s zig-zag to Fisherman’s Walk, Boscombe Pier, East Cliff, West Cliff to Middle Chine and either side of Shore Road in Poole.
The project involved a 0.8-mile-long underwater pipe stretching out to sea to connect with the dredger and pump material ashore. Up to 1.2 miles of shoreline pipe was then used to distribute the sand and beach material.
However, concerns about the state of the beach have been raised this summer, with people being quick to complain about how people leave their litter behind when they visit. One more person said: "So disrespectful. Just take the rubbish home with you. It's not that hard."
Another also added: "Welcome to Bournemouth. Every single year it's the same thing. The lack of respect for people is insane."
