Melania and Donald Trump, who first crossed paths in 1998 and tied the knot in 2005, had grand plans for their future together.

In a 1999 interview with ABC, Melania, then still dating Donald, spoke about her vision of him becoming President and herself as First Lady, promising to uphold traditional values akin to those of Jackie Kennedy or Betty Ford.

Whether it was a woman's intuition or sheer ambition, Melania's predictions have indeed materialised -- not once, but twice. The news comes as it was reported Melania Trump could see Vanity Fair come back crawling to make her cover star.

Back in 1999, Melania, then an unmarried 26 year old, appeared on ABC as part of a fundraising campaign for North Shore Animal League America.

During the chat, the Slovenian model, whose wedding dress was reportedly up for grabs on eBay, was asked if she could see herself as First Lady, to which she responded affirmatively, "Yes.", reports the Mirror US.

Melania praised Donald saying: "He's very smart. He knows how to do business. He would be a great leader."

She further pledged to "support" and "stand by" her future husband, stating: "I would be very traditional, like Jackie Kennedy and Betty Ford."

Even back in 1999, Melania envisioned herself as First Lady.

Throughout the interview, she admitted being "in love" with the tycoon, describing him as "very kind" and "very charming".

Years later, Melania returned to the subject of becoming first lady in another interview carried out shortly after her husband announced his plans to run for the Presidency of the United States for the first time.

Chatting with People Magazine, she observed: "It's a long road. I take it day by day. My husband has a lot of people cheering for him. We will see."

Trump told the magazine: "(Melania) would be an amazing representative for our country ... I could see her being very involved in women's health issues."

She drew comparisons between herself and Jackie Kennedy and Betty Ford.

"She's an elegant person with a very big heart. She's very calm and confident, very warm and very beautiful."

More recently, a Democrat has grabbed attention by suggesting that Melania Trump should be deported. California Representative Maxine Waters has put forward that Melania Trump be returned to her native country as President Donald Trump and his administration have been concentrating on criticising and deporting immigrants.

Waters declared: "If he wants to start looking so closely to find those who were born here and their parents were undocumented, maybe he ought to first look at Melania.

"When he [Trump] talks about birthright, and he's going to undo the fact that the Constitution allows those who are born here, even if the parents are undocumented, they have a right to stay in America."

In reference to Melania, she further commented: "We don't know whether or not her parents were documented. And maybe we better just take a look."
