A triple killer was finally executed on death row today, over 30 years after his heinous crimes.

Curtis Windom's execution marked a record 11th for Florida this year, as he was administered the lethal injection in prison and pronounced dead within minutes. He was convicted for the brutal murders of his girlfriend Valerie Davis, her mother Mary Lubin, and Johnnie Lee, a man who allegedly owed him $2,000 (£1,500 today), and was sentenced to death in November 1992.

Despite the lengthy wait of nearly 33 years for the execution, Kemene Hunter, sister of victim Valerie Davis, hailed justice today. She sported a T-shirt at a press conference following the execution that read: "Justice for her, healing for me." The execution comes just weeks after a death row killer who cut out his wife and kids' hearts gouges out his own eyes.

"All I want to say is, it took 33 years to get some closure. Vengeance is mine, says the lord," Kemene told journalists outside Florida State Prison near Starke, where Windom met his end.

After Windom, aged 59, was administered the three-drug cocktail - a sedative, a paralytic and a heart-stopping drug - he began taking deep breaths and his legs twitched several times, before he became motionless, reports the Mirror.

This execution marks the 30th person executed in the US so far in 2025, with Florida leading the pack. The state is set to execute a 12th inmate next month - David Pittman - for stabbing his estranged wife's sister in the 1990s.

Earlier this month, Kayle Bates received a lethal injection for murdering a woman he kidnapped from an insurance office in Florida.

Windom, a father, shot his partner "with no provocation" in front of a friend, according to court records. He also randomly shot and injured another man before encountering Valerie's mother, Mary, who was on her way to her daughter's flat.

Mary was shot twice in her car at a stop sign.

In addition, Windom had murdered Johnnie in Orlando, Florida, over an alleged debt of $2,000 (£1,500). Court documents reveal that Windom purchased a 38-calibre revolver and a box of 50 shells from a supermarket. Shortly after, he located Johnnie, shot him twice in the back from his car, and then fired two more shots at close range while standing over him.

Windom was sentenced to death for the murders and received a 22-year sentence for attempted murder. However, his daughter Curtisia Windom, whom he shared with Valerie, campaigned against the execution.

She stated: "Forgiveness comes with time, and 33 years is a long time. I, myself, have forgiven my father."

An anti-death penalty group submitted a petition with over 5,000 signatures to the governor this week, pleading for intervention. Despite this, the decision to execute Windom remained, making him the 11th person to be executed on death row in Florida this year.
