A father considered ending his own life after being savagely attacked by a grizzly bear whilst on holiday.

However, Jeremy Evans, 39, found the will to survive when the song Baby Shark began playing on his mobile phone, reminding him of his family as it was the lullaby he used for his daughter's bedtime.

Jeremy was airlifted to hospital where he underwent two extensive surgeries, each lasting up to 13 hours, in an attempt to save his face. In total, he endured five major surgeries and another 15 minor procedures, spending five weeks as a patient.

He required 1,000 sutures and 1,000 staples. The married father sustained horrific injuries after the bear ripped off the left side of his face in "one swoop" and chewed on his head "like a dog gnawing on a bone" during the terrifying incident in the Rockies in Alberta, Canada.

Despite his severe injuries, Jeremy attempted to stumble to safety but fell 200ft downhill into the bottom of a rocky creek. In excruciating pain, he pulled out his phone to bid farewell to his family and to play some music as he faced death.

He pressed shuffle, and the song that played saved his life.

Reflecting on the ordeal, Jeremy said: "My left eye was hanging out of the socket. It was facing down. In order to really see, I either had to lift up my eye or lean my head way back... I remember feeling my face and nothing felt the same. My jaw was hanging down on the left side and all my teeth were exposed."

Jeremy's face had been so brutally torn apart he was left picking up pieces of flesh from the ground, the Mirror reports.

The attack occurred as Jeremy observed some sheep grazing on grassland. Without warning, a 350lb grizzly bear rushed towards the tourist.

Jeremy went on: "She pulled her paw across my face from the bottom left hand corner, all the way towards the right side and removed my whole face in one swoop, my nose, my right ear, everything.

"She started chewing on the left back corner of my head like a dog gnawing on a bone. And then she just started ripping and tearing everything off."

The father spoke to the Mail this week regarding his harrowing experience. He has penned a book entitled Mauled, chronicling his survival, which will go on sale shortly.

The dad also tours globally as a motivational speaker, sharing his battle with PTSD diagnosed following the horrific incident which took place in 2018.

Jeremy now aims to raise $5million (£3.7million) towards PTSD research.

He revealed his PTSD is set off by the sounds of ice cracking and the scent of blood.
