Cornwall is set to welcome its first beachside ice rink this Christmas, promising a festive atmosphere with festive lights overhead and the "scent of mulled spices drifting on the salty sea breeze". After enjoying a spin on the ice, visitors can warm up with hot chocolates and wood-fired pizzas served right by the rink.
The aptly named Skate by the Sea will open at Watergate Bay Hotel from November through to January, offering an elevated view of the two-mile surf beach, close to the hotel's restaurants, hot tub and sauna. Daily skating sessions are planned, with specific hours for families, accessible needs, and adults-only. Penguin and polar bear skate aids will be available to assist younger skaters and beginners.
In addition, the hotel is offering seasonal packages including a Skate and Stay deal, reports Cornwall Live.
Will Ashworth, founder and executive director of Watergate Bay Hotel, expressed his excitement: "This is Cornwall's first beachside ice rink. Whether you're here to skate, surf, stay or simply soak up the atmosphere, it will create a rare new experience right on the shoreline."
The ice rink will be open every day from 17 November to 11 January, excluding Christmas Day, with varying opening times throughout the week.
Opening times are Monday and Tuesday 3-8pm; Wednesday and Thursday 12-8pm; Friday and Sunday 10am-8pm and Saturdays 11am-9pm.
Admission prices will be £20 for adults and £15 for children during peak hours, and £17/£12 off-peak.
