Creating a cosy home environment often involves small moments of comfort, and nothing quite says relaxation like a snug pair of slippers. This is particularly true when working from home, where the desire for comfort and support is paramount.
I'm typically loyal to bed socks, but recently I've been on the hunt for a proper pair of slippers - something with a bit more structure, yet still comfortable. So, when Simba, the company behind the award-winning Hybrid Mattress, announced its venture into the slipper market last year, my curiosity was certainly piqued.
The Rok Slippers, £89, are Simba's debut in this field, with comfort being the primary focus. However, Simba has taken it a step further: these slippers feature nine gel-filled pressure points designed to massage feet, providing a gentle reflexology-like experience.
I've been wearing these slippers consistently for a couple of months now, and they've been fantastic. Straight out of the box, I was taken aback by how stylish they were - I'd even consider wearing these moccasin-style shoes out while running errands.
Upon first wearing them, the gel pressure points were discernible - not overly so, but enough to indicate they're designed with support in mind. The difference is particularly noticeable after my post-lunchtime stroll - I usually return with slightly sore feet, but slipping into the Rok Slippers feels like a treat.
They instantly alleviate the tension in my feet, and it's painless to walk around the flat in them. The gel pressure points shine here, gently supporting and soothing the most fatigued areas, such as the arch and instep.
Another feature I've found beneficial is that they don't slide off my feet - even when going up and down stairs or moving swiftly around my flat. They have a non-slip rubber outsole, which has proven useful on the tiled kitchen floor (no skidding while dashing for coffee) and when I've had to rush downstairs for a delivery.
My only real complaint is that they aren't excessively warm. As it's currently sunny outside, this is not an issue at present, but I suspect I'll be pairing them with socks once the temperature drops again.
For those who favour warmth over support and comfort, The White Company's faux fur booties are a superior alternative. Plus, they're discounted to £15.60 from £26.
Another option could be these faux fur-lined slippers from Next for £22. These come in a range of colours and have attracted comments such as "Fabulous. Well worth the money."
After two months of use, from desk work to bin runs and even cooking, the Simba slippers have proven their durability. They've maintained their shape and quality, showing no signs of wear or tear.
While they may not keep my feet as toasty as my cherished bed socks, they certainly alleviate the typical end-of-day foot fatigue. Slipping them on first thing in the morning or upon returning home has become second nature.
Granted, they're more expensive than run-of-the-mill slippers, but considering the innovative technology, enduring comfort, and reputable brand behind them, they seem like a sound investment. The fact that I haven't reached for my bed socks since these arrived speaks volumes.
