Kate has largely embraced this fashion tradition, carefully selecting looks that honour royal customs while still reflecting her modern flair.
Her choices mirror the late Queen Elizabeth II’s philosophy that colour carries meaning and presence - which is is not to be overlooked.
This summer alone she has turned heads in a dazzling Tiffany-blue Catherine Walker coatdress for Trooping the Colour – a look that evoked memories of Princess Diana.
She followed that with a bespoke cobalt-blue, V-neck, midi-length Roksanda dress at Wimbledon in July, earning praise from style watchers worldwide.
Celebrity stylist Leroy Dawkins suggested Kate may be subtly adapting her wardrobe in preparation for her future role as Queen.
He explained that the late Queen’s “one-colour dressing” approach worked not only as a regal statement but also as a practical solution for a busy mother and monarch – something the Princess of Wales appears to understand.
Speaking to the Mirror, Dawkins added that “colours chosen can also let you know the wearer’s mood, as colours represent certain messages.”
Kate frequently opts for red, navy, white, camel and light blue, all shades that project confidence and composure. While Meghan Markle has become known for muted tones and a love of neutrals, the Princess of Wales avoids them, much like Queen Elizabeth herself.
Indeed, Kate has reportedly remarked that she would “never wear beige” as it would make her blend into the background.
Royal author Robert Hardman confirmed that the late Queen had a memorable stance on the shade, recalling her famous line: “I can never wear beige because nobody will know who I am.”
He described it as one of his favourite remarks from the monarch, summing up her approach to royal fashion in a single sentence. However, Kate has recently shown a fondness for softer tones, stepping out in crisp cream and elegant white Self-Portrait designs – including a bespoke dress she wore at this year’s Wimbledon Championships.
