The wife of Bruce Willis has shared huge news with fans on social media this week.
Emma Heming Willis took to Instagram after attending a landmark event at the California State Capitol, where lawmakers passed a resolution officially establishing September 21–27 as Frontotemporal Degeneration (FTD) Awareness Week.
The 46-year-old model and author, who has been her husband’s full-time caregiver since his diagnosis with the neurodegenerative condition was made public in 2022, joined members of the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration (AFTD) and fellow advocates at the Capitol on Monday, August 18.
She proudly witnessed legislators come together to approve the resolution - the second of its kind in California - as she marked the huge moment on Instagram.
Posting the update to her page later that evening, she wrote: "We are grateful to the California Legislature for recognising FTD Awareness Week; September 21st–27th and to the elected officials who made this possible.”
"This resolution is more than symbolic, it’s a lifeline of recognition for every family touched by FTD," she added.
Fans flooded the comments section to show their support, with one writing, "wow!!!!" while others gushed, "Fantastic," and, "Stellar."
Emma has been open about life as a caregiver to Bruce, whom she has been married to for over 15 years.
The Hollywood icon - best known for roles in Die Hard, Pulp Fiction, Unbreakable, and The Sixth Sense - was initially diagnosed with aphasia before his condition progressed to frontotemporal dementia.
She has been documenting their journey ever since, and her raw honesty has resonated with fans around the world. Emma’s debut memoir, The Unexpected Journey: Finding Strength, Hope and Yourself on the Caregiving Path, is due out on September 9, opening up about her experience caring for a loved one with a degenerative illness.
In a recent interview, she recalled the devastating moment Bruce received his official diagnosis. "On the day Bruce got his diagnosis, we left the doctor’s office with a pamphlet and a hollow goodbye. No plan, no guidance, no hope, just shock,” she said.
“The future we imagined simply vanished, and I was left trying to hold my family together, raise our two young daughters, and care for the man I love while navigating a disease I barely understood.”
Despite the news, she previously took to her Instagram page as she wrote that Bruce still experiences “love, connection, joy, and happiness,” which she posted about back in March 2024.
However, the actor’s condition has sadly worsened. It was reported last month that Bruce no longer remembers that he was once a world-famous movie star.
His family has since revealed he has lost the ability to read, speak, and walk, and no longer understands why strangers recognise him or paparazzi follow him.
