Victoria Coren made a devastating admission after tying the knot to her Peep Show star husband David Mitchell. The Only Connect host, 53, married David, 51, in 2012 – branding the comedian her “soulmate” and “true love”. They’ve gone on to welcome two daughters together – Barbara and June.
But just a year after their nuptials, Victoria made a devastating confession during an interview with The Telegraph. The quiz show host said “a lot of people” were “very grumpy” when they announced the news of their wedding, just because David was being taken off the market. She explained: “I completely understand why.
“I mean, he’s a hugely successful television comedian, he could have had a gorgeous 24-year-old skinny wife with a tiny nose and a string bikini, but he chose me! Me!”
Victoria self-deprecatingly added: “I am filled with this bizarre mix of thinking David could have done a lot better than me and feeling we’re so alike and complement each other so wonderfully that we are the ideal match and couldn’t possibly be with anyone else.”
In the same interview, Victoria admitted she’d considered “paralysing” her face with Botox as an experiment – but said she had never had anything done cosmetically. She joked she wanted to win a poker tournament by “completely paralysing my face so only my eyeballs move” from “shedloads” of Botox.
As for David, he “couldn’t believe his luck” at getting to marry Victoria, telling The Guardian: “If I can be a standard bearer for other people who are luckier than they deserve, well…”
David proposed to Victoria in her kitchen before taking her out to a restaurant, knowing it would be “embarrassing” to ask her the question in public. He didn’t get down on one knee “because [he] calculated in advance she wouldn’t like it”.
