Disgraced BBC presenter Huw Edwards made a rare public appearance in Swansea this week as he turned 64. The convicted sex offender, who was officially dropped from the BBC in 2024, celebrated his birthday on (Monday) August 18th, and was seen carrying three bottles of Prosecco from his car through the streets of the Welsh city.
Edwards sported a white beard and wore a blue shirt under a black jacket, with a blue baseball cap held in one hand as he made his way down the street. He also wore glasses and smart brown shoes despite the seemingly casual outing, with a pair of black slacks.
Edwards pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images of children in July 2024 at Westminster Magistrates’ Court, after resigning from the BBC on “medical advice” months earlier. He had been off air since 2023, when allegations against him were brought to light.
While he was originally suspended from the BBC, Edwards remained on its payroll and was paid £475,000 in 2023-24. The BBC asked him to return more than £200,000 of that salary, but though “discussions were underway”, he had not returned the money by September 2024.
Sources in August 2025 claimed the money has still not been recovered, with one telling The Sun: “Everyone is raging about it. Firstly at Huw, who is a disgrace, and secondly at gutless bosses who seem unwilling or unable to do anything about it.”
