Catherine Zeta-Jones spoke candidly about her ability to afford luxuries as she admitted she loves to "surround myself with beauty". The Wednesday actress, 55, opened up about her property portfolio but insisted she prefers comfort over anything too "excessive". The Welsh-born star and her husband Michael Douglas, 80, own four homes - one of which is in Canada, one in Spain and two in New York. Speaking to the Sunday Times, she briefly addressed owning her homes and confessed it does sound very "jet set".

“I know it sounds very jet set, and I love to surround myself with beauty but it’s not excessive, it’s very comfortable,” Catherine told the publication. The mum-of-two comes from humble beginnings, born and raised in the seaside town of Mumbles in Swansea, Wales. Her mum Patricia worked as a seamstress, while her dad, David, worked in a sweet factory.

In a stroke of luck, David eventually bought the factory after winning over £100,000 in a big win following a game of bingo.

The big win also helped to fund Catherine's dance lessons.

She explained: “It feels like a very precocious thing, and I don’t know where it comes from, but I’d say it out loud, ‘I want to be on the stage.’ I was a bit of a prodigy."

The Hollywood actress also opened up about her love of fashion but admitted she wouldn't spend hundreds of pounds on a white T-shirt.

Catherine said: “I go to all the vintage stores in Paris. I buy things that you are probably never going to wear, like a gorgeous cape, just great pieces."

"I am loving classic Yves Saint Laurent at the moment. I get excited about evening dresses. For me, a pair of jeans is a pair of jeans. Spending £200 ($270) on a white T-shirt? Nah. But when it comes to couture, beautiful beading, the artistry … I love the theatre of fashion," she added.

Catherine's comments comes after her husband Michael recently opened up about their sprawling property called S'Estaca on the Spanish island of Mallorca.

He purchased the compound with his first wife Diandra Luker. They first tied the knot in 1977 but the couple divorced two decades later.

The former couple faced an "uncomfortable time" when they had to share the house with Michael's ex-partner, per a translation of the actor's 2021 interview with the local Mallorca news outlet, Ultima Hora.

"It was very uncomfortable to share the house of S'Estaca with my ex-wife, Diandra," the Ant-Man star previously said. "Six months each was not a pleasant thing for anyone."

Catherine and Michael now own the house.

He commented: "Now that everything is arranged and that the house is one hundred percent ours, Catherine's and mine, I can say that I never wanted to leave.

"My children will continue to come and my grandchildren and their children. I am sure that for generations this island will be theirs. This house belongs to my family and it will continue to be. Cameron, Dylan and Carys love it. My daughter speaks Spanish perfectly."

"My ex-wife Diandra is no longer an owner, a partner with us, so we have the house together and Catherine's very happy here," he said, describing the Spanish island as "magical."

"I couldn't think of anywhere else, anywhere in the Mediterranean, where I can see such a coastline," he insisted at the time.
