US President Donald Trump made a peculiar gaffe whilst aboard Air Force One, sparking fresh concerns about his mental acuity.

Ahead of his summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday, he discussed with Fox News his hopes for a meaningful resolution to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.

The two world leaders convened in Anchorage, Alaska, to explore a potential ceasefire in Russia's conflict with Ukraine, though little materialised despite what was described as a "productive meeting."

"We're gonna see what happens, we're gonna have a meeting today, hopefully it'll be good," the president had informed Fox News correspondent Bret Baier, shortly before meeting Putin.

"If it's bad - if it's something I don't see a future in, I'm gone. I'll leave. I don't have to do a press conference, I'll just say 'Not going to be a deal, I'm out of here' and I go back to the United States.", reports The Irish Star.

Nevertheless, Trump was travelling to Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage, which forms part of the United States.

The error sent social media users into meltdown, with one individual posting, "Adding President of the United States doesn't know all of the States in the United States to the list of quotes showing the intellect if the 'stable genius.'""He's never been good with maps," penned another user, whilst a third commented, "Obviously he still thinks Alaska is Russia.

"Trump's geography skills are as sharp as his grasp on reality," observed a fourth person. "Forgetting Alaska's been American since 1959 while he's blabbering from inside it."

No Deal Trump and Putin lauded their meeting as fruitful, with the US President stating that the leaders were able to make "some headway" and "great progress" in their negotiations; however, "there's no deal until there's a deal."

President Trump expressed hope that the meeting would be the first step towards a potential trilateral meeting with Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

"We had an extremely productive meeting, and many points were agreed to," he said. "We didn't get there, but we have a very good chance of getting there.Neither Trump nor Putin responded to questions from the press following a media briefing, leaving it unclear what transpired during the meeting.During the briefing, Putin acknowledged the tense relationship between Russia and the US. "It is known that there have been no summits between Russia and the US for four years, and that's a long time.

This time was very hard for bilateral relations. ""And let's be frank, they have fallen to the lowest point since the Cold War.

I think that's not benefiting our countries and the world as a whole," he said.Putin added: "A personal meeting between the heads of state has been long overdue. ".

Meanwhile, Trump stated he would reach out to NATO, along with President Zelensky.
