Prince Harry will be bringing the Invictus Games to Birmingham in 2027, with the event set to be special for many reasons. While the competition, like many in the years gone by, will be a chance for ex wounded servicemen and women to get together and enjoy support - something Harry wanted when he founded the Invictus charity in 2014 - it may also pose a chance of royal reconciliation face to face.

This is because it was previously reported this year that members of the Royal Family could be invited to the event, which will be held from July 10-17, 2027. A source told The Mail on Sunday that Harry "agreed" that his family should be invited, calling the gesture an “olive branch”.

However, the Royal Family has not yet confirmed attendance for the event, with it yet being unclear whether or not they will RSVP yes, especially as the royal rift with Harry, 40, and some of his relatives seems to be far from over.

Speaking to Express.co.uk, royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams thinks that if the King, Harry’s father, does not attend, he will instead send some members of the family to be at the event on his behalf.

It is believed Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie could fulfill this role as they still have positive relationships with their cousin, who quit royal life and moved to Montecito five years ago.

Mr Fitzwilliams exclusively told Express.co.uk: “Invictus, which Harry founded, is an important military charity. We don’t yet know if the King, who is commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, will attend.

“We do know that if he does not, he is certain to be represented. He might ask Beatrice and Eugenie, both of whom get on with the Sussexes, to represent him.”

Mr Fitzwilliams continued: “This would be quite within his right as monarch, although it would obviously be seen as a snub. In any event they (Eugenie and Beatrice) are expected to attend.”

The event will be held at the National Exhibition Centre (NEC) in Birmingham.

While Meghan Markle, 44, is usually by Harry’s side at Invictus Games events, it is unclear whether she will attend the competition in the UK.

This is because Harry has previously spoken about his concerns for the safety of his wife and their two children in the UK as a result of his downgraded taxpayer-funded security rights. Meghan is not believed to have visited the UK since 2022, when she attended the late Queen Elizabeth’s funeral.
