A man in his 60s has died, and another was missing after a boat crash in Tipner, Portsmouth. Police and emergency services rushed to the scene just before 8pm on Thursday, August 14. According to police, a rigid-hulled inflatable boat was involved in a severe collision.
A Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary spokesperson confirmed that three men were involved in the incident. A man in his 60s from Emsworth, Hampshire, was pronounced deceased at the scene. His family have been informed and will be supported by officers. Another man, also in his 60s and from Havant, is still reported missing. The force confirmed that the third man, in his 50s from West Sussex, was taken to hospital but has since been discharged.
The incident prompted a large-scale emergency response, with coastguard rescue teams deployed from Portsmouth at 8.25pm and Hill Head at 8.36pm. A helicopter was also seen operating near Queen Alexandra Hospital during the evening.
Full details of the incident are not known at this time and an investigation is now underway to understand what occurred, with Hampshire Police liaising with the Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB).
Tipner is a residential district of Portsmouth, located on the northwestern corner of Portsea Island.
