A devoted Oasis fan tragically died just hours before he was set to see the band perform in Scotland. Alessandro Croce, a 30 year old dentist from Teramo, Italy, had flown in especially to watch Liam and Noel Gallagher at their second show at Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh last week, as part of their massive Oasis Live'25 tour across the UK and Europe.
Tragically, Alessandro fell ill at his hotel just hours before the concert, and despite the best efforts of emergency services and his friends, he passed away. Social media has been awash with tributes to the keen basketball player and dentist. Alessandro's relatives are expected to arrive in Scotland today to bring his remains back to his homeland.
Mayor of his hometown Gianguido D'Alberto said in a statement: "The city of Teramo is united in grief over the loss of Alessandro Croce. I offer the Croce family the condolences and closeness of the municipal administration and the whole community in this difficult time."
Antonina Fidecaro, the president of BasketBall Teramo, paid tribute to Alessandro's contribution to the team, saying: "Alessandro was not only a pillar of our team, but an integral part of our history and the heart of our association. Alessandro played with our team for six seasons, he was our first captain in the 2012 and 2013.", reports the Mirror.
"He dedicated his life to his passion for basketball, becoming an example of dedication, loyalty and sportsmanship for all of us, from the youngest to the veterans. His absence will leave an unfilled void in all of us, not only on the court but above all in our hearts.
"In this moment of great sadness, all the board, the technical staff, the athletes and the fans of Basketball Teramo wish to express their deepest condolences to Alessandro's family. His memory and his smile will remain forever alive in every game, in every training session and in every basket."
After the heartbreaking news emerged, those who knew Alessandro have flocked to social media to share their tributes.
One person wrote: "Honoured to have met Alessandro, after a few months his empathy, sensitivity and kindness are already evident... Values of other times A great loss for the world. Rest In Peace."
A second person said: "R.I.P. Alessandro, wonderful boy. We will miss you a lot. It was always a pleasure to talk and compete with you. Condolences to the whole family. Goodbye, great doctor. I love you.
The tragic news follows after a supporter of the group plunged to his death at their gig at Wembley Stadium in London.
Lee Claydon had been seated in the Level 5 section of the national venue during the sold-out performance.
He is believed to have plummeted from a considerable height and sustained "injuries consistent with a fall." He had gone to the concert alongside his brother, Aaron, his niece and his nephew.
Despite not being present, Lee's father suspects that he may have slipped on spilled beer because the floors were wet.
"There was beer all over the floor, it was really slippery, and Lee just slipped and fell," he told The Sun. "I've been told that it was an accident waiting to happen. It was a horrible, horrible accident."
