An Iranian migrant has been sentenced to three years in prison for stabbing an asylum seeker 15 times in a "frenzied attack" at a migrant hotel in Oxford. Syed Barzegar, 32, was found guilty after the attack at the Holiday Inn Express in Oxford by a jury at Oxford Crown Court.
During the trial, it was heard that the victim, who can't be named for legal reasons, was stabbed 15 times by Barzegar. Whilst the attack was happening, the victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, frantically told Barzegar to "stop, stop". The trial heard that the victim's shirt was covered in blood. Throughout the sentencing, on August 11, Barzegar held his head in his hands.
The attack happened on January 30 at the Holiday Inn Express in Oxford in Grenoble Road, near the Kassam Stadium.
A jury found Barzegar guilty of unlawful wounding and being in possession of a bladed article, namely a black handled knife. They found him not guilty of wounding with intent.
