Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher launched a foul-mouthed tirade at Edinburgh City Council as the band arrived in Scotland for their Murrayfield gigs. On stage on Friday (August 8) for Oasis’ first Scottish gig since 2009, Liam hit out at council bosses after they targeted fans as “fat, drunk and rowdy” in front of a crowd of 70,000 people.

The Scottish Sun reported that freedom of information requests for safety briefing documents obtained before the reunion shows revealed officials were concerned that the 210,000 people in attendance across three nights threatened the rival Edinburgh Fringe Festival taking place at the same time. Documents said the council expected “medium to high intoxication” and a “substantial amount of older fans” that were “already rowdy”.

As well as fears over the “tone of the band”, documents warned: “Middle-aged men take up more room. Consider this when working out occupancy.”

Now Liam has been left fuming, and launched an explicit rant on Friday night. He said: “One second, where do I start here with everyone at the city council, the f***ing slags?! £1billion we’re bringing to this city over the next three days. £1billion.

“But you won’t see any of it because the Lord Provost will be splitting it between [his] posh ugly f***ing mates.” He went on to demand an apology from the council, saying Oasis are “still waiting for a f***ing apology” after the comments were made in October last year.

He tweeted at the time: “To the Edinburgh council, I’ve heard what you said about Oasis fans and quite frankly your attitude f***ing stinks, I’d leave town that day if I was any of you lot. I’d love to see a picture of all the people on the Edinburgh council, bet there’s some real STUNNING individuals.”

Meanwhile, Oasis Collectors Group spokesman David Walker added: “To call fans drunk, middle-aged, and fat is a nasty, sneering stereotype, it’s a jaundiced view.”

However, the council’s culture and communities convener Margaret Graham told The Sun at the time: “We’re very proud to host the biggest and best events in Edinburgh throughout the year, which bring in hundreds of millions of pounds to the local economy and provide unparalleled entertainment for our residents and visitors.

“As with any major event which takes place in the city, we prepare extensively alongside our partners to ensure the safety and best possible experience of everyone involved – and Oasis are no different.”

Now one comedian has blamed the band after nobody turned up to his Fringe Festival set.
