Netanyahu's command to seize the disputed territory follows a video released by Hamas showing several gaunt hostages claiming they were suffering due to widespread famine.

Hamas has consistently demanded that supplies such as food and water be allowed into the Gaza Strip for the group to return to negotiations.

The Iran-backed militant group has brushed off reports about Israel’s intent to conquer Gaza, describing the threats as “repetitive, worthless, and have no influence on our decisions.” The statement comes after months of negotiations in Doha involving Hamas, Israel, and mediators aiming for a ceasefire-hostage agreement.

The group has insisted that hundreds of trucks of aid must be allowed into the Gaza Strip before it will return to talks, despite growing international efforts to deliver supplies to Palestinians in ways that bypass Hamas’ control.

Over the weekend, Hamas released videos showing visibly emaciated hostages and claimed they were starving due to widespread famine in Gaza.
