A woman who spent a day in a Devon town has labelled it as the "most eccentric" in the UK due to its "quirky" traits. Solo traveller Lana, who travels around the country in her VW T4 campervan, took to TikTok to share her most recent journey.

"Van life in the UK's most eccentric town where the high street smells like incense, everyone's barefoot and the local currency might actually be hugs," she joked. After pointing out the town's only drawback - the expensive nature of the motorhome car park where she stayed overnight - Lana went on to express her joy as she headed towards the water.

"It's only £15 a night though, you can't complain with riverside views like this," she acknowledged, before showing footage of herself paddleboarding in the river.

Lana continued, telling her followers she went "straight from the SUP [standup paddleboarding]" to the town, which is "very much alternative". Highlighting Totnes' crystal and incense shops and herbal tea and vegan cafes, she suggested that "pretty much everything" in the town is independently run.

"There's also a market on a Friday and Saturday with local produce," she added, before visiting the nearby Totnes Museum. "I absolutely love it," Lana exclaimed. "There's so much art and culture here along with a really big music scene."

Lana also praised the town's historical attractions, recommending Totnes Castle, which boasts more than 950 years of history. "There's also the South Devon Railway, which is a steam train and great for families," she added.

Other remarkable points of interest on her itinerary included the self-explanatory Totnes Rare Breeds Farm and Berry Pomeroy - a neighbouring village renowned for its castle ruins. Concluding her clip, Lana explored the local coastline at Blackpool Sands and also urged viewers to venture to Dartington Hall - "an estate you will not regret visiting."

"We pretty much grew up around this area... it's amazing and one of a kind in the UK... a must see in Devon for a very UNIQUE experience," Lana added in a caption.

She also observed: "The River Dart passes straight through, there are beautiful walks all around lots of quirky independent shops and cafes! Definitely recommend market day!"

Writing in response, one TikTok user enthused: "Love Totnes! Would recommend doing the round robin steam train from Paignton to Kings Wear, over to Dartmouth... different vibe but worth a little mooch, then ferry along the River Dart to Totnes, another mooch (apart from Hippie vibe shops there's an amazing vintage shop at the top of the hill and a gorgeous interior shop called Love Frankie) then the open top bus back to Paignton."

A second person declared: "Totnes is a great town, lots to see and do and some great places to eat." A third shared their Totnes experience: "Zappa's do the best coffee in Devon. Great vegan cakes too."

While a fourth person admitted: "I literally live down the road from here, why have I not been?"
