Ozzy Osbourne’s final song choice before his death aged 76 has been revealed – and it was a tragic one. The Black Sabbath rocker reunited with his former bandmates for one last concert on July 5 at Birmingham’s Villa Park at the Back to the Beginning 2025 gig, and while sitting on a gothic throne, microphone in hand, sang five of his solo tracks.
That setlist ended with two heartbreaking songs – Mama, I’m Coming Home and Crazy Train. Mama includes the heartbreaking lyrics: “I've seen your face a hundred times / Everyday we've been apart / And I don't care about the sunshine, yeah / ‘Cause mama, mama, I'm coming home / I’m coming home.”
The song is said to be inspired by Ozzy’s wife Sharon – and the fact that he thought he would have died decades earlier if he hadn’t gone sober. He explained: “‘Mama I’m coming home’ was always something I’d say on the phone to my wife near the end of a tour.”
As for Crazy Train, the lyrics include: “Inheriting troubles I’m mentally numb / Crazy, I just cannot bear / I’m living with something that just isn’t fair / Mental wounds not healing / I’m going off the rails on a crazy train.”
When the full band took to the stage, they performed War Pigs, N.I.B., Iron Man and Paranoid, before a round of fireworks finished off the show.
The last verse of that song is especially tragic considering it was the last Ozzy ever performed. The lyrics read: “And so, as you hear these words / Telling you now of my state / I tell you to enjoy life / I wish I could, but it’s too late.”
Yesterday, Ozzy’s family confirmed in a statement: “It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning. He was with his family and surrounded by love."
