You really can't beat a good trip to the beach, and we're lucky enough to have so many brilliant European destinations pretty much on our doorstep. Just a few short hours on a plane and you're in a warm and sunny paradise, with Italy being a very popular choice for holidays

It's known for its rich history and amazing cuisine, but it's also home to some gorgeous beaches. And there's one in particular that should be on your radar. While most holidaymakers flock to Rome or Venice, Italy’s coastline boasts some of Europe’s most jaw-dropping secret beaches that look like they could be in the Caribbean

The travel experts at UNA Italian Hospitality have hailed La Pelosa in Italy as a true hidden gem that locals don't want you to know about.

Worlds away from the busy city tourist traps that are very common in Europe, this beach - with its gorgeous scenery and calm waters that are great for swimming - is not to be missed.

The pros described it as an 'ethereal' stretch of powder‑white sand with knee‑high turquoise water framed by an iconic 16th‑century Aragonese tower.

With its gently shelving seabed and view across the Gulf of Asinara and Capo Falcone you’d be forgiven for thinking you’re in the tropics.

Backed by traveller reviews and Sardinian guides praising its “crystal‑clear turquoise waters” and soft white sand, the beach is also carefully managed to protect its dunes.

Even better, Sardinia is just a two and a half hour flight from the UK, so it really doesn't take long to get there and spend some time relaxing and enjoying everything that the area has to offer.

To prevent too much overcrowding, the beach has a system in place where you can book a spot during the warmer months, as this is when it's likely to be the busiest. Visitors have also recommended going early or late in the day, in order to get the most tranquil experience.

People have been raving about the beach on TripAdvisor, with one person writing: "One of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. The water is incredibly transparent, with tones ranging from turquoise to deep blue, with shallow waters perfect for families with children.

"The view of the tower and the island makes the atmosphere even more fascinating. Despite being a well-known beach, it is well organized and controlled to preserve its beauty. A corner of paradise that is absolutely worth the visit!"

Another said: "One of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Unmissable if you are in the area, I hope to be able to return soon."
