Another Air India plane was caught up in an incident, with an aircraft catching fire shortly after landing on Tuesday. The plane, which had flown from Hong Kong and landed at  Delhi's Indira Gandhi Airport, suffered some damage following the blaze, which was doused at the air hub. 

The fire involved the auxiliary power unit, according to an airline spokesperson, and happened as passengers were getting off. Despite the incident, all those aboard the plane were able to safely leave the aircraft. In a statement, an Air India spokesperson said: "Flight AI 315, operating from Hong Kong to Delhi on 22 July 2025, experienced an auxiliary power unit (APU) fire shortly after it had landed and parked at the gate. 

"The incident occurred while passengers had begun disembarking, and the APU was automatically shut down as per system design."

Sharing the aircraft sustained "some damage", the spokesperson added "passengers and crew members disembarked normally and are safe". They added: "The aircraft has been grounded for further investigations and the regulator has been duly notified." 

This comes after Air India planes have been involved in a string of incidents in recent weeks. On Monday alone, a plane heading to Kolkata had to abort takeoff from Delhi Airport due to a technical snag, while another flight veered off the runway in Mumbai while landing in heavy rain. 

In June, Air India Flight 171 crashed shortly after departure in Ahmedabad, killing all but one person on board. A further 19 people on the ground also died, after the aircraft hit a residential area. 

A preliminary report on the incident raised questions over whether one of the pilots cut off fuel to the Gatwick-bound plane's engines after leaving the airport.
