This quaint seaside village has been named as one of the most picturesque in the UK and it’s hardly surprising to see it make the list. With a long fishing history, the town has become known for its wildlife and scenic beaches.
You can enjoy fresh fish and chips, take a walk along its harbour or get out into the surrounding nature. Located in Northumberland, you can even take a boat trip to a nearby island from this peaceful seaside village.
A list compiled by Metro reads: “It’s the view from Seahouses that sets it apart from its neighbours.
“The village – which is approximately 20km north of Alnwick and included in the Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty – has a stunning view of both Bambrugh Castle and the Farne Islands.”
Seahouses is an ideal base for exploring Northumberland’s coastline.
You can see Bamburgh Castle in the distance from the area and there’s also views of Holy Island and Lindisfarne Castle from the village.
One must-visit site in the area is Longstone Lighthouse. One person who took a trip over to the lighthouse said: “Great trip out to the Farne Islands. It’s always on our list of things to do every time we visit Seahouses.
“Going on the Golden Gate is great as it’s the only boat which has rights to land at Longstone Lighthouse, the scene of Grace Darlings famous rescue.
“Alongside the history is the wildlife. Plenty of seals and puffins make it for a memorable trip.”
Grace Darling lived in the Longstone Lighthouse in the 1800s and one day she spotted a ship wreck close by. She and her father rowed a boat on the stormy sea to rescue the survivors.
To recognise her achievements, Queen Victoria sent them a thank you letter and £50 which is equivalent to around £6,300 in 2025.
Tourists are often fascinated by this piece of local history while visiting the area. While you’re there, one great way to see the scenery is to take the Seahouses walk to Bamburgh Castle.
At about three miles, you’ll walk primarily along the beach and you can enjoy beautiful coastal views along the way.
If you’re looking for a quiet and peaceful break in the UK, Seahouses could be the perfect place for you this summer.
