Sir Elton John had the full support of his emotional fans as he took to social media this week with a major update. The Crocodile Rock musician, 78, has been an advocate for HIV health for decades, and shared an interview he conducted with campaigners alongside his husband David Furnish.

The founder of the Elton John AIDS Foundation chatted to Winnie and Isa, who are working in Uganda on the “front lines” of its HIV response. Elton said it was a “privilege” to chat to the “remarkable” people who “reminded us of what’s truly at stake”. During the interview, Isa explained that reduced funding is leading to dire consequences for the people of Uganda.

David said: “You inspire us with what you do, and we’re determined to fight as hard as we can to make sure we keep going forward and we don’t go backwards.”

Meanwhile, Elton wrote on Instagram: “Thanks to the generosity of the American people, PEPFAR has helped save over 26million lives – it’s one of the most successful global health programs in history.

“The recent funding freeze has shown just how fragile that progress is - and how urgently support is still needed. Last week, the U.S Government restored PEPFAR funding for the remainder of 2025 - a vital, life-saving step we applaud.

“But the work isn’t over. We need funding secured longer term and resources must now reach the frontlines quickly to prevent new infections and ensure access to treatment. Watch the full video via the link in our bio to see why fully funding PEPFAR is critical to the global HIV response.”
