Star Trek and Cagney and Lacey legend Tom Troupe has died aged 97, his representative has confirmed. The Hollywood actor rose to fame in the 1990s, appearing in hit film Mission Impossible and My Own Private Idaho. He died five days after his birthday at his home in Beverly Hills due to natural causes.

After serving in the Korean War, Troupe was given a Bronze Star, before returning to New York City to pursue his acting career after receiving a scholarship to the prestigious Herbert Berghof Studio from legendary actress Ute Hagen. He then enjoyed a successful acting career from the 1960s through to the 90s, appearing in more than 75 TV shows and films, including Murder, She Wrote, Cheers, The Fugitive and The Wild, Wild West.

Troupe also starred alongside his wife Carole Cook in a number of stage performances, including The Gin Game and Fathers Day.

Cook was also a successful actress, best known for her roles in Sixteen Candles and The Lucy Show.

The pair were honoured with the 2002 L.A. Ovation Award for Career Achievement.

Troupe also co-founded The Faculty, a Los Angeles based acting school, alongside Charles Nelson Reilly, Lu Leonard, John Erman, and Dom DeLuise.

His last on-screen appearance was in Time Out, released in 2019, where he played the role of Mr Andrews.

This came over 60 years after his first Broadway appearance as Peter in The Diary of Anne Frank in 1957.

Tributes have poured in for the actor, as one fan posted on X: "May he rest in peace."

Another added: "That leaves Clint Eastwood as the last surviving cast member of Kelly's Heroes," as a third said: "RIP Tom Troupe."

Troupe is survived by his son Christopher Troupe, his daughter-in-law Becky Coulter, his granddaughter Ashley Troupe and his nieces and nephews. Cook, his wife, died in 2023 of heart failure at age 98.
