A hit BBC show is set to return to TV screens with a 13th series, fronted by Fiona Bruce and Philip Mould.

Fake or Fortune? is due to make a comeback on BBC One in a matter of days, with Antiques Roadshow star Fiona teaming up with art dealer Philip for another chance to delve into a new collection of art works.

The show, produced by BBC Studios Entertainment Productions, will see the duo revisit past art works for the very first time as they seek to find out what happened next to the pieces.

Philip and Fiona are set to discover a fresh collection of art, with investigations into names such as Churchill, Renoir and Frances Hodgkins. The first episode will launch on BBC One on Monday, 21 July, featuring special guest, carer and amateur art collector Barry.

The episode will see the duo look into a painting Barry purchased at a local antiques fair in Sussex, which has writing on the back indicating it was painted in June 1916 by Rt Hon Winston Churchill at Herstmonceux Castle. The trio seek to uncover whether he was really the artist behind the work, and if so, how much it is worth.

Speaking about the new series of Fake or Fortune?, art dealer Philip, who co-created the show, said: “Each series of Fake or Fortune? continues to surprise me with the unique challenges and complexities involved in authenticating art.

"Advances in information retrieval and forensic science have significantly expanded the scope of research and the tools at our disposal, making the process more rigorous—and more fascinating—than ever. It’s been a real pleasure meeting the guests featured in this latest series; the stakes and emotions have never been higher. Audiences are in for a real treat with these investigations.”

Meanwhile, journalist Fiona said: “As always, our investigations in this series have been full of twists and the most unexpected turns. With some of the biggest names in the art world, the outcomes have been potentially life changing for the owners.

"From an unloved picture hidden in a cupboard to one picked up by chance as part of a job lot at auction, the series continues to uncover hidden treasures.”

Robert Murphy, Series Editor, BBC Studios Entertainment Productions said: “Audiences are in for a rollercoaster ride with the intriguing new cases in our thirteenth series.

"It’s always a pleasure to bring new works of art to the screen and to explore how the art world is changing at rapid speed due to technological advances. It takes a heady mix of investigative research, forensic science and art world politics and to solve these puzzles – and with forgers lurking in the shadows, there is always a risk that a fabulous treasure might not be quite all that it seems.”

The new series of Fake or Fortune is made up of six episodes, each featuring a new investigation.

Fake or Fortune? series 13 launches on Monday 21st July at 9pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
