This is the moment the main stage of a huge music festival is engulfed by flames. Tomorrowland, a key music festival taking place in Belgium, was dealt a huge blow on Wednesday, just two days before it was due to launch, as a blaze ripped through its main stage.

Clips circulating on social media show the massive flames devouring the stage, leaving onlookers online and at the site in disbelief. The fire ripped through the main stage at the festival site near the Belgian town of Boom. There are no festivalgoers at the site, although around 1,000 employees are understood to be there.

Local VRT News site said it was not yet known if anyone had been injured in the blaze and emergency services asked people living nearby to close their windows and doors as the inferno is still not under control. It's not the first time a fire has broken out at a Tomorrowland festival, in 2017 more than 22,000 people were evacuated after a blaze broke out when the event was held in Barcelona.

The Mirror reports a festival spokesperson told local media: "Our priority now is the safety of our visitors and those in the surrounding area."

The mayor of Boom, Jeroen Baert has reportedly cancelled his holiday in Germany and will be returning to handle the fall out from the fire.
