Lisa Faulkner opened up about her marriage to John Torode, confessing they "do things differently". The couple originally met on This Morning in 1996 before crossing paths once again when Lisa, 53, appeared on Celebrity MasterChef in 2010. In 2019, the same year they tied the knot, Torode and Faulkner launched their ITV cooking show, Weekend Kitchen. The series returned with season 10 at the beginning of July, just weeks before John was sensationally axed from MasterChef after an investigation found he used racist language in the workplace.
Ahead of series 10 hitting screens, Torode opened up about his marriage to Lisa and how they enjoy cooking together because of their busy schedules. He said: "Having very busy lives and lots of different things happening means we get a proper buzz about cooking together and spending all the time planning, testing and then finally filming the show. We both love what we do and we both relish the amount of time we get to spend with each other filming."
The chemistry between the duo shines through on the programme as they blend decades of culinary and creative expertise with genuine warmth and wit.
Lisa explained: "We're always learning from each other, the kitchen is a place we both love to be, we get to see how the other cooks and to hear each other's ideas."
The actress declared: "We often do things differently," adding that she's "always learning something new" from her husband.
The future of the ITV programme was thrown into chaos after Torode's exit from MasterChef, however, several sources within the network have claimed there will be "no current changes to scheduling" for the upcoming weekend.
This means the third episode John and Lisa's Weekend Kitchen will broadcast as usual at 11.40am on Saturday.
A source said: "I think we will keep going with the show. We don't know the details of the BBC issue and have never had any trouble with him ourselves.
"We obviously have our own complaints handling procedure and a code of conduct for talent at ITV. There have been no issues raised with John so the series is set to continue to air."
Torode's exit from MasterChef comes after a report upheld that he used "racist language". The "serious racist term" was reportedly so severe that BBC's Director General Tim Davie said he was not prepared to repeat it. Torode claimed to have no recollection of the incident, which is said to have occurred in 2018 or 2019.
Meanwhile, Gregg Wallace was permanently sacked from the BBC after 45 of the 83 allegations were upheld following an investigation into his alleged behaviour.
