TV star Kirstie Allsopp has previously opened up about buying a holiday home in the Bahamas three months after her mother's death. The Channel 4 presenter, known for co-hosting Channel 4's Location, Location, Location with Phil Spencer, admitted she had "no regrets" using most of her savings to purchase the family hideaway. She candidly posted a series of images on her Instagram last year, which showcased the stunning location and detailed the reason why she decided to purchase the property outside the UK.
She wrote: "In March 2014, three months after my mum died, I came to stay with a friend on Harbour Island, in the Bahamas. I knew nothing about the place, it was my first big trip with the boys but no Ben, and they were five and seven.
"Within three days, I had made an appointment to see a 'real estate agent.' I know the lingo now, and I spent nearly all the money I'd saved from making Locations on a house here. I never regretted it for a moment. If you've ever been lucky enough to come to the spot Tim Peak called 'the most beautiful place on earth from space,' you will know that the sea is incredible, and for someone who loves to swim, it is sheer bliss.
She added: "My children and stepchildren now have an amazing life here and many, many friends. No one watches my shows or knows anything about my work, I'm just another middle aged mum."
Kirstie signed off with: "People often whinge about fame, and half the time it's rubbish; many of us would not have what we have without the fame, and though it's a treat to be anonymous sometimes, that shouldn't stop me from sharing this place with those who bother to follow me on Instagram."
At the time, she was flooded with support from many of her 436,000 followers. One person left a comment saying: "When you say share, do you mean for us to book a flight and just arrive? #justasking..."
A second also said: "finding your place after losing your mum is a wonderful thing", to which Kirstie replied: "My mum would have loved this place so much. I did get my dad here and he painted it, and loved it."
A third person asked her: "So if you had to pick... Switzerland or the Bahamas? Mountains first for me every time!" Kirstie responded: "Often asked that. In the end, it will come down to where the kids can reach us and hopefully grandchildren, but it will also depend on work, as I never plan to retire."
