Sir Brian May took a very special date along to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Live Aid at a special gala performance of the musical about the show Just For One Day in the Shaftesbury Theatre. Queen were one of the highlights of the original event with Brian and bandmates Freddie Mercury, Roger Taylor and John Deacon wowing the worldwide audience. The legendary guitarist is usually accompanied to events by his wife, Doctor Who star Anita Dobson but on this occasion, Brian's rarely seen daughter Emily joined him. The pair were photographed together on the blue carpet with Emily's stylish black sundress proving a muted wardrobe choice next to her father's brightly coloured jacket.
Brian posted about the event on his Instagram and while he didn't mention Emily, she can be seen in the background of a clip he posted, in which he and Live Aid founder Bob Geldof embrace. He captioned it: "A nice moment - celebrating the 40th anniversary of LIVE AID. Go see the musical ! @liveaidmusical - and take your kids ! You might need to pre-explain the 'F'word to them if they're very young ! But words are just words, right ? And actions speak louder ... right ? We need a kinder, more forgiving world .... OK ?! GREAT JOB you guys - long may you run at the Shaftesbury Theatre."
Her presence didn't go unnoticed by fans who flocked to the comments on his post to express their delight at seeing him out and about with daughter. "This is such a special moment in time! I’m so glad you shared with your daughter Emily on this momentous occasion," one wrote.
"Great to see how you celebrated Live Aid 40th anniversary by attending the actual Live Aid Musical. History repeats itself X Sending Love to Emily as well X," another added. A third chimned in: "Emily doesn't look a day older than when I met her at the National March Against the Badger Cull in London. That was 2013. She is so lovely."
"Your daughter is beautiful, you can see in her face how proud she is of her father. An Eternal hug for you dear Brian," a fourth penned.
Menawhile a fifth penned: "What fantastic pictures of you & daughter Emily at the musicial as your enjoying the anniversary of 40 years since Live Aid concert. Remembering the memories of then & are making new memories along with your daughter."
Emily, 44, is the youngest of Brian's children with ex-wife Chrissie Mullen. The couple also share James, 47 and Louisa, 44.
In 2023 Brian confessed he was probably a "bad parent" at points as he agonised over decisions he made regarding his children. Admitting his parenting style was far from perfect he said: "I've been through agonies thinking that I made some terrible mistake with my kids, and at certain points in their life, they will tell you that you made a terrible mistake, and dealing with that is really hard.
"And what you have to do, I suppose, is own up to it and go, yeah, probably I was a bad parent at that point. I made a wrong decision. So what do I do now?
"Are you going to forgive me? Am I going to forgive me? If we don't sort of forgive and move on, it doesn't really benefit anyone. So (you've) got to get this out of the drawer, look at it, sort of make amends as best you can, and put it back in the drawer. Because if it's there in front of you your whole life, you'd never move on," he pondered speaking on the Fret Not podcast.
