Passengers of two major airlines have been warned of a massive change coming to flights. Ryanair  and Jet2 will no longer allow passengers to bring hot drinks aboard their planes as they introduce new health and safety rules.

In light of this, travellers will be required to finish all hot drinks before they board. Ryanair’s new policy  says the airline “cannot allow passengers to board the plane with hot drinks” for safety reasons. This applies to all hot drinks, regardless of where they were purchased. Jet2’s new policy says that passengers “may not bring hot food or hot drinks onboard the aircraft”. Tui and easyJet do allow passengers to bring hot drinks aboard, so long as they have secure lids to avoid spills. 

According to Ryanair, hot drinks are not allowed onboard because of the potential risks involved with carrying a beverage that could spill or cause burns in the event of turbulence or an emergency situation. 

Jet2 said this rule is intended to minimise any potential issues that could arise during the flight when handling hot liquids in a confined space.

This comes as Brits are warned about bringing to UK soil certain types of food from holiday. Meat and dairy products cannot be brought into the UK, even when in prepared foods like sandwiches. This even applies to items bought in the airport.

Food and drink rules were introduced in April to try and protect against foot and mouth disease. Beef, lamb, mutton, goat, pork and dairy cannot be brought into the UK by travellers.

The Government has said the ban is a move to protect the health of British livestock, the security of farmers, and the UK's food security.

However, a limited amount of infant milk, medical foods, and certain "composite products" like chocolate, confectionery, bread, cakes, biscuits, and pasta are still allowed.
