ELO frontman Jeff Lynne has cancelled another gig, confirming he is "heartbroken" as he battles an infection. A statement from the musician read: "Jeff Lynne is heartbroken to report that he will not be able to perform at tomorrow’s BST Hyde Park show. Jeff has been battling a systemic infection and is currently in the care of a team of doctors who have advised him that performing is simply not possible at this time nor will he be able to reschedule.

"The legacy of the band and his longtime fans are foremost in Jeff’s mind today – and while he is so sorry that he cannot perform, he knows that he must focus on his health and rehabilitation at this time." Attendees were then sent to a link to get their tickets refunded for Sunday's gig (July 13).

On Thursday night (July 10) fans were told the ELO gig at Manchester’s Co-Op Live was cancelled last minute, just moments before the support act was set to take to the stage. A statement released to Jeff’s X account read: “Unfortunately due to illness tonight’s schedule performance of Jeff Lynne’s ELO at the Co-Op Live will not be going ahead.

“Jeff is devastated he cannot perform this evening. More information will become available as soon as possible. For refunds please go to your point of purchase.” 

The official social media account had previously said Sunday’s gig was likely to go ahead, stating: “We are advised that there are currently no concerns with regard to Sunday’s performance.” 

ELO fans had noticed Jeff looking “unwell” on Wednesday night (July 9), and when he opened the tour in Birmingham earlier this year, it was with a broken hand that meant he could not play guitar. 

Hyde Park was set to be the band’s final performance on their Over and Out tour, to say goodbye to fans. He explained at the time: “My return to touring began at Hyde Park in 2014. It seems like the perfect place to do our final show. We couldn’t be more excited to share this special night in London with our UK fans.”
