Christian Horner is said to be worried his marriage to Geri Halliwell is in “crisis” after being sacked from Red Bull Racing. He was relieved of his duties as the F1 team principal and replaced by Laurent Mekies as CEO of RBR on Wednesday (July 9) after leading the team to six constructors’ titles and eight drivers’ championships, including Max Verstappen’s four wins.
Now he is reportedly worried about his marriage to former Spice Girl Geri. Horner, 51, has been married to the singer since 2015, and the pair share son Monty together. They also have two daughters, both from previous relationships – Bluebell, 18, and Olivia, 11.
Now a source has claimed to The Sun: “Christian is of course desperately sad that his career has ended this way. He also had the shock news about his ex-wife’s death just a few days before. But the emotion he showed during his teary speech was actually about Geri.”
The insider added: “He fears his sacking is yet another crisis for his marriage to face after an incredibly difficult year."
Last year, Horner faced allegations of inappropriate behaviour made against him by a female colleague, which he vehemently denied. After an investigation, the allegations were dismissed, and his wife Geri stood by him throughout the scandal.
At the 2024 Dutch Grand Prix, he said: “Obviously, it's been a hugely thorough process and, of course, I was relieved with the appeal concluding and dismissing the claim. So, now It's very much, as it has been all season, focus on track, here at Max's home race and looking forward to these last 10 races."
He said on Netflix’s Drive to Survive: “The higher you rise, the sharper the knives. I've reached the top of my game and I never thought in a million years I'd have a challenge like this in my career.
“It's a crucial time of year, in a job that I do, you're the front face of the organisation. You can either hide away or you can get out there and face it.”
