Rod Stewart and his wife Penny Lancaster have given fans a rare glimpse into their family life as they shared a photograph with their rarely-seen son Alastair at Glastonbury Festival.
Penny, 54, posted the image to Instagram showing the couple alongside their 19-year-old son, singer Lulu, 76, and fashion designer Stella McCartney, 53. Rod, 80, wore a dark jacket and for the occasion, while Alastair can be seen smiling and clutching a can of soda with an arm around Lulu, dressed in a white and stripe T-shirt.
Fans were delighted with the snap and inudated the family with well wishes. One user penned: "What a fantastic group photo!!! Everyone looks amazing!" Another person wrote: "Look how happy everyone is. Such a great photo, Penny!" While someone else shared: "What a beautiful picture, looks like Rods still got it!"
Alastair was at Glastonbury to support his rocker dad who performed in the coveted Legends slot. The music icon wowed the Pyramid Stage crowd with an unforgettable show on the Sunday afternoon with thousands flocking to Worthy Farm to sing along to his hits. The 19-year-old shared his own tribute to his dad with a carousel of photos and videos from the event. He wrote: "Cliche, however… words definitely can’t describe this feeling. Love you Glastonbury, love you fam, love you dad - what a bloody performance."
During the 45 minute show he welcomed special guests Ronnie Wood, Mick Hucknall, and Lulu on stage. The show ended in an emotional rendition of his 1975 classic Sailing, a song originally released by the Sutherland Brothers in 1972.
Speaking to BBC Radio 2's Jo Whiley just after leaving the stage, Sir Rod revealed he battled to hold back tears during his final song. When asked if he "lost it" during Sailing, the 80 year old admitted: "Yes, a little bit teary eyed.
"It's just such an emotional event. Especially if you're British. This is our Woodstock and there's nothing bigger in the world and we do it the best." Sir Rod made a bittersweet confession that the performance felt more poignant, knowing it would be his last time at Worthy Farm. Reflecting on whether turning 80 made the show more significant, he said: "Yes they do because I won't be back."
"This is my Glastonbury moment. My World Cup final. I've got to sit down tomorrow and take it all in, how responsive the audience were. I could retire tomorrow, but I won't."
Rod later expressed elation at the concert's triumph, relaying advice from his son Alastair. He shared: "My oldest son said, 'If it's as packed as far as you can see and they let off flares that means you're a big success, so I think it was a big success."
Praising his family's support, especially his wife Penny Lancaster, Sir Rod admitted he nearly didn't make it to Worthy Farm. He revealed: "She got me here. This time last week I said I'm not doing it. She said 'yes you are, you're doing it. You're going to be fit. Because I had the flu."
The couple, who have been married since 2007, rarely share photos of Alastair on social media. The teenager is the eldest of Rod and Penny’s two sons, with the pair also sharing 14-year-old Aiden.
Alastair is one of eight children Rod has from previous relationships. He welcomed his first child, Sarah Streeter, in 1963.
Penny has spoken in the past about raising a blended family and her pride in Alastair’s sporting achievements. In a 2023 interview, she said: “He’s very dedicated and focused.”
The family’s appearance at Glastonbury comes weeks after Rod wrapped a series of performances in Europe, including shows in Spain and Germany as part of his global tour.
