Emily MacDonagh, married to pop star Peter Andre, has given rare insight into her role as stepmother to Junior and Princess Andre, Peter's children with ex-wife Katie Price. This revelation comes following claims by 47-year-old Katie that she was omitted from the guest list for daughter Princess' recent 18th birthday bash.
Emily, 35, who has three children with Pete herself, usually keeps mum on matters pertaining to Katie and seldom discusses her stepchildren in public. Nevertheless, she's opened up during an intimate conversation with Giovanna Fletcher on the Happy Mum Happy Baby podcast.
A practising NHS doctor, Emily says she knows she isn't Princess and Junior's biological mother but aims to act "more like a big sister".
Discussing her delicate role, Emily remarked: "I always feel like, you know, I'm not their mum, and that's something I always have to make sure I tread carefully with. I always see it, I think I would see it a bit more like being a big sister."
She elaborated further: "I don't know if that's the right way to look at it, but I think, you know, I always try and give them guidance, but I wouldn't overstep that. I obviously try and support them like I would do with my own kids", the Mirror reports.
Speaking candidly about her parenting style, she revealed she's particularly firm with younger children on screen time: "I always try and be the same. I'm quite strict though, on my kids. That's what I would say to the older kids, it's lucky there's an age gap, you know? Because then you guys don't need to worry about, like, silly rules I have - screen time and stuff like that.
"I'm like, you guys can be exempt because you're older. The age gap is enough that my kids don't ask the question, 'Well, why are they allowed to have the screens?".
This revelation follows Katie's heated remarks about her daughter Princess' birthday event, aired on her podcast, 'The Katie Price Show', with sibling Sophie. Katie vented: "Princess is now officially an adult, so mummy and Princess can now go out together, if certain people would let her be seen with me."
She intimated ongoing discord with the agency once joint-managed with former spouse Pete, lamenting: "Certain people don't think it's good for Princess to be seen with me, certain people that used to look after me."
Implying issues arise from her ex-agent, who still represents Pete as well as their offspring Junior, 20, and Princess, Katie hinted at behind-the-scenes strain.
Sophie quipped in response to Katie's exasperation: "You aren't on brand Katie. You are too risky Katie, that's why."
The frustration was palpable as the former Celebrity Big Brother star bemoaned: "It's pathetic, I'm her mother,".
Yet, Katie underscored the enduring, unaffected relationship she has with Princess regardless of professional rifts, adding wistfully: "It's so sad that certain people who were looking after me are looking after Princess."
When Sophie inquired about their invitation to Princess' 18th birthday bash, Katie responded: "No, I wasn't invited because it was for filming."
