A passenger on the Manchester-bound Ryanair plane described the moments of "utter chaos" that followed an incident that prompted the scheduled flight to be cancelled. The flight was due to take off from Majorca's Palma Airport late on Friday night (July 4) until passengers were forced to evacuate the aircraft.
Passengers recalled cabin crew telling them to "get off the plane", with some exiting the aircraft via the wing, leading to several injuries. Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, one passenger said they could smell "burnt electrics" when she collected her baggage.
However, Ryanair issued a statement denying that there was a fire on the aircraft.
In an earlier statement, a Ryanair spokesperson told the Daily Express: “This flight from Palma to Manchester (4 July) discontinued take-off due to a false fire warning light indication.
"Passengers were disembarked using the inflatable slides and returned to the terminal.
"While disembarking, a small number of passengers encountered very minor injuries (ankle sprains, etc.) and crew requested immediate medical assistance.
"To minimise disruption to passengers, we quickly arranged a replacement aircraft to operate this flight, which departed Palma at 07:05 this morning.
"We sincerely apologise to affected passengers for any inconvenience caused.”
