With just days to go until the US celebrates the Fourth of July, a large fireworks facilty in Esparto, Yolo County, northern California, has catastrophically caught fire, igniting a series of immense explosions and sparking evacuation orders,
Out of nowhere, massive blasts ripped through the town of Esparto on Tuesday, scattering frightened residents as fireworks erupted into the sky, igniting flames that began to spread rapidly.
The continuous explosion of fireworks resulted in several streets being closed down in the rural community as sheriffs from Yolo County actively worked to evacuate people from the danger zone. Winters Police Department reported numerous "large explosions", noting the blaze was still raging hours later.
Astonishing aerial footage from a local CBS helicopter, which had been monitoring a nearby wildfire, captured the repeated enormous blasts shaking the fireworks storage facility.
The facility reverberated with a succession of fireworks discharging bright sparks and thunderous booms, all contributing to a colossal smoke plume billowing across the skies of northern California.
This towering smoke column has reportedly reached up to 15,000ft in height. As the explosions persisted multiple hours alter, the inferno swiftly extended to the surrounding dry brush amid the region's arid season.
Units from California Fire, both on the ground and in the air, have been mobilised to manage the intensifying fire.
Officials have mandated a one-mile evacuation perimeter around the explosive incident. The fire is encroaching upon the adjacent brush and extending towards Highway 16.
The Yolo County Sheriff's Office has issued a stern warning following the colossal explosions, urging the public to steer clear of the vicinity to enable emergency teams to operate unhindered.
A statement from the sheriff's office read: "We urge everyone to avoid the area so that fire crews and emergency responders can safely do their work."
They added: "At this time, the cause of the explosion remains unknown."
In an assurance to keep the public informed, they concluded: "The Yolo County Sheriff's Office will share updates as more information becomes available."
So far, no casualties have been reported in the wake of the substantial blasts at the fireworks depot, with authorities actively investigating the cause of this explosive incident.
