Police are to assess videos of Kneecap’s Glastonbury set to determine whether a criminal investigation will be launched after the group led a chant opposing Keir Starmer. The controversial Irish hip-hop group led chants of "F*** Keir Starmer" and urged crowds to riot in the Westminster courts during their headline set at Glastonbury’s West Holts stage on Saturday, June 28.

Kneecap stirred up the 300,000 revellers who reportedly joined in on the chant, which was later repeated during their performance alongside several calls for “Free Palestine”. The band addressed the Glastonbury crowd during their gig, saying: "F***ing love the English people. It's the English Government we don't like. We're not far away from a Celtic republic. F*** Keir Starmer." Frontman Liam Og O hAnnaidh, who performs under the name Mo Chara, is on unconditional bail after being charged of displaying a flag in support of Hezbollah, a proscribed terrorist organisation and chanting “up Hamas, up Hezbollah” at a London show last year. He denies this charge.

Sir Keir said that Kneecap's gig would not be "appropriate" due to Mo Char’s terror offence. The BBC confirmed that they would not be live-streaming Kneecap's performance.

Addressing the charges his band mate Naoise Ó Cairealláin, known as Moglai Bap, said: “Mo Chara is back in court for a trumped up terrorism charge.

“It's not the first time there has been a miscarriage of justice for an Irish person in the British justice system. So now you know he's available on the 20th August at Westminster, support Mo Chara and let's start a riot in the courts.'

Later on in the hour long set, Mo Chara said: “The Prime Minister of your country, not mine, said he didn't want us to play so f*** Keir Starmer.”

Mo Chara also declared, "Palestinian Action isn't arming Israel. That's Keir Starmer."

Many fans waved banners and wore face paint and balaclavas to support the band.

Avon and Somerset Police say they are aware of the comments and will “determine whether any offences may have been committed”.

The full statement read: “We are aware of the comments made by acts on the West Holts Stage at Glastonbury Festival this afternoon.

“Video evidence will be assessed by officers to determine whether any offences may have been committed that would require a criminal investigation.”

Avon and Somerset Police are also scrutinising comments made by Bob Vylan who led contentious chant of 'death to the IDF'. The punk rock duo incited festival-goers with cries of "free Palestine" during their performance.
