A gender reveal party booked on Airbnb for a mere eight guests spiralled into pandemonium as up to 200 youths descended upon a quiet Rochdale cul-de-sac, causing 'absolute chaos' and 'mayhem'. The police were summoned to the tranquil Norden neighbourhood to scatter the vast throng of partygoers.
Locals from Falcon Close recounted how the street was swamped with young people, and it took law enforcement, arriving in tactical aid unit vehicles, a full two hours to disperse the crowd. An image acquired by the Manchester Evening News reveals the extent of the assembly, with rumours suggesting that social media may have played a role in spreading the word. Initially, residents thought they were witnessing an 'after party' for a school prom, but the M. E, reports the Manchester Evening News.
One Falcon Close inhabitant remarked, "They looked in their 20s to me," adding, "It was their presence that became quite threatening really. It was absolute mayhem." Another local expressed their fright, saying, "It was very, very scary when I looked out of the window last night," and noted it took the police two hours to clear the scene.
In a related incident, a Golf GTI crashed into a house front on Edenfield Road, though its connection to the party remains uncertain. Greater Manchester Police has declined to issue a statement.
The Airbnb property, boasting five bedrooms, a pool table and a hot tub, was first listed for rent in October, according to the M. E.N. The proprietor, who chose not to disclose his full name, admitted that Wednesday evening's incident had somewhat tarnished the reputation of the property, but vowed to prevent any similar occurrences in the future. He stated: "We got up there as quickly as we could and got it shut down with the police."
However, other locals have voiced their grievances about previous issues with Airbnb tenants on the street, accusing them of 'uncaring' behaviour which has led to 'ill feeling' amongst residents. "There are quite a few elderly people around here," one neighbour added. "Usually, it's a very quiet cul-de-sac, we all stick together and look after each other."
Another resident, expressing their outrage on a local Facebook page, described the incident as 'horrendous'. They commented: "Complete disregard for people living on Falcon Close - young families and elderly people. Totally unacceptable. This Airbnb needs to be shut down. It's not right to expect local families to tolerate this."
Named Falcon House on Airbnb, the property can be rented for a nightly rate ranging from £350 to £750, depending on the day of the week. No additional information has been disclosed.
