Six men have been arrested after two pro-Israel protesters were injured in an altercation near the Iranian Embassy in London. There remains a heavy police presence on the scene amid the demonstrations, believed to be against the Iranian regime. Flags were flown in support of Israel and Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi, including the pre-1979 Islamist revolution national banner. The Metropolitan Police said the arrests took place on Prince's Gate, where the Iranian embassy is located, but did not specifically link them to the building.

The force added that six men have been arrested on suspicion of greivous bodily harm. Witnesses told MailOnline that pro-Israeli protesters were chanting support for Benjamin Netanyahu and calling for the Iranian regime to be toppled. Images from the scene show protestors on stretchers being treated by paramedics who are giving them oxygen, while others are being taken away in handcuffs.

A Met Police spokesman said: "At 09:53hrs on Friday, 20 June, officers responded to reports of an altercation in Prince’s Gate, SW1. Six men have been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm – they remain in police custody.

"Two men were treated for injuries at the scene and have been taken to hospital for further treatment by the London Ambulance Service. Police have cordoned off the area while initial investigations take place."

The London Ambulance Service has been contacted for comment.
