Donald Trump is considering a strike on Iran according to reports. The US President held a meeting this afternoon in the White House with his closest military advisors to discuss options as the conflict continues to escalate in the Middle East.

According to NBC, President Trump is considering a range of options following the meeting, one of which includes an attack on the country. It comes just hours after the US leader posted an ominous warning on Truth Social in which he claimed that the US was not planning to kill the Supreme Leader of Iran Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, “at least for now.” He said: We know exactly where the so-called “Supreme Leader” is hiding.

“He is an easy target, but is safe there - We are not going to take him out (kill!), at least not for now. But we don’t want missiles shot at civilians, or American soldiers.

“Our patience is wearing thin. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”

He followed this with a message calling for Iran to “surrender immediately.”

The post and meeting look to be a critical juncture in the war and with the US’ relationship with Iran, with Trump consistently taking a hard line with the religious theocracy.

In his first term, he backed out of a nuclear deal signed by his predecessor Barack Obama, calling it the worst deal in history before later carrying out a targeted assassination on the high ranking and popular general Qasem Soleimani.

Iran and Israel have today traded missile and drone exchanges for the fifth consecutive day, despite calls from the US and other western nations for de-escalation.

Earlier today a cross party resolution aimed at stopping Donald Trump from launching a military attack on Iran was introduced to Congress.

The measure saw Democrats on the left of the party partner with Republicans in an unlikely alliance aimed at averting a potential conflict.

Republican Thomas Massie said: "The Constitution does not permit the executive branch to unilaterally commit an act of war against a sovereign nation that hasn't attacked the United States.

"Congress has the sole power to declare war against Iran.

"The ongoing war between Israel and Iran is not our war.

"Even if it were, Congress must decide such matters according to our Constitution."

The resolution is supported by leading Democrats including Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
