Spain has long been a beloved holiday destination for sun-seeking tourists, just a two-hour flight from many parts of the UK and boasting an array of enticing destinations.

Benidorm, on the country's eastern coastline, is particularly popular among Brits, offering everything you could ask for from a holiday, regardless of budget. With its vibrant nightlife and award-winning beaches, it's no surprise that it consistently ranks as one of the UK's favourite holiday hotspots.

However, one traveller is encouraging others ditch Beniform for anothre Spanish area as she's claiming to have discovered a 'hidden gem' that may be familiar from popular television programmes.

Nestled near the Portuguese border, Extremadura consists of the provinces of Cáceres and Badajoz. This secluded region boasts mountains, forests, lakes and reserves, providing a stark contrast to the bustling resort towns.

It's also home to historic towns brimming with Roman ruins dating back to the era of Augusta Emerita, including the Teatro Romano, Circo Romano, aqueducts and a bridge spanning the Guadiana River that will make you believe you're in Rome.

British travel blogger Ellie Green, renowned for her travel tips and for uncovering hidden gems across the world, took to TikTok to share her experiences exploring this lesser-known Spanish region.

Drawing comparisons to Rome, Yosemite, Dubrovnik and Tuscany, she shared glimpses of her journey through one of Spain's more undiscovered areas.

Ellie gushed about Spain's hidden gem on her latest travel video, teasing some stunning visuals. She wrote in the caption of the video: "The hidden gem of Spain where you will find incredible landscapes, beautiful historical towns (which you might recognise from Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon) and super tasty food (including the BEST Iberian jamon!!)"

She marvelled at the region's beauty, noting its versatility from Roman ruins similar to that of the Colosseum but without the crowds, to hiking through verdant mountains and bygone towns perfect for diverse tastes, alongside inviting natural lakes and waterfalls ideal for sun-soaked days with refreshing swims.

Extremadura, a treasure trove of history and natural wonder, has also doubled as a backdrop in the seventh series of Game of Thrones, including the epic clash between Lannisters and Targaryens at Los Barruecos near Malpartida de Cáceres.

The city of Cáceres may also be familiar as King's Landing, as the city's historic Plaza de los Golfines and Arco de la Estrella appears in both the original series and its prequel, House of the Dragon.

Ellie couldn't help but express her disbelief that travellers often overlook such spots, exclaiming: "I can't believe people visit Spain but miss places like this!!"

Viewers quickly echoed her thoguhts, with one viewers commenting: "so beautiful and stunning views."

"Looks beautiful!" another viewer wrote.
